MORE CRUISE ACTIVITY 18th Sept 11

CRYSTAL SYMPHONY alongside Pier 22 on 18th September 2011. NYK Line's 1995 built cruiser is one of the prettier vessels visiting recently.She carries 922 passengers and a crew of 545. GRT 51,944 tons. Registered in the Bahamas.
LE BOREAL at Pier 23 on 18th September 2011. Back again after a brief excursion into the Gulf of St Lawerance. See earlier post.
Cruiseship SILVER WHISPER getting a bit of a nose powdering at Pier 20 on 18th September rounded out the threesome of cruise ships at the Pier 21 complex with a fourth smaller vessel,Akademik Iofee, further along at Ocean Terminals made for quite a busy Sunday on the Halifax waterfront. The Silver Whisper weighs in at a GRT of 28,259 tons ,is Italian owned and registered in the Bahamas.

SE POTENTIA

SE POTENTIA berthing at Pier 30 on 18th September with a load of large wind turbine blades. The special projects vessel was built in 2009 by Snafu Ship Engineering,Taizhou Jiangsu,China and previously named Brattingsborg.

IMO No: 9431472. Gross Tonnage: 9,627 tons.

Fitted with two heavy lift cranes at 150/120 tons and 95/70 tons.

Machinery: Single shaft diesel, Model: Caterpiller 6M43 @ 5,400KWs = 15 knots.

CELEBRITY SUMMIT

Hurricane Maria did not deter the cruiseship CELEBRITY SUMMIT from calling at Halifax today,Sept 17th 2011. While traffic was minimal in the Port,this big Lass got right down to business as usual. A frequent caller here in the "Northern Cruise Season".Photo taken August 20,2010 at Pier 22 Halifax.

Sweedish auto transporter OTELLO alongside at Autoport,Eastern Passage,Halifax on 14th Sept 2011. She later moved to Halterm and off loaded heavy crated kit before departing evening of 14th. CRUISE SEASON in FULL SWING

Le BOREAL brand spanking new French cruise liner called at Halifax for I believe her first visit to the Port on 14th September 2011. Built by Fincantieri,Trieste,Italy 2010. LOA 142m Beam 18m. IMO 9502506 Flag: France Call Sign: FLSY. A rare bird in these parts is a French liner.
A regular visitor is the Holland-America liner EURODAM. Seen here at Pier 21 bunkering from Algoma Dartmouth on 14th September 2011. Built 2008. LOA 285 m Beam 32,2m. Registered in Netherlands with call sign PHOS.
Nice to see ARCADIA again 14th Sept 2011,not too frequent a caller at Halifax. The ship is registered in Bermuda (British) with call sign ZCDN2. LOA 285m Beam 32,2m Dr 8.1m. IMO No. 9226906.

GRAND MANAN ADVENTURE

New Grand Manan Island ferry,GRAND MANAN ADVENTURE has a number of teething problems being corrected at Halships. The vessel docked yesterday (Sept 13,11) in the NOVADOCK,looking rather small in the big Panamax floating dock. She is infact GRT at 6,580 tons. LOA 80.28 Beam 18.5 Depth 13.75 (meters). Built 2011 by Eastern Shipbldg.Grp.,Panama City,Fla.,USA. Owned by N.B. Govt. Flag: Canada Call Sign: XJAV.
Vessel scheduled to return to service within about a week. Nice little ship,hope all the defects get sorted out.

FAREWELL to SMALLWOOD and CARIBOU

Former Marine Atlantic Ro-Ro /Passenger vessels Caribou (2008 file photo) and J and C Smallwood (below) both called at Halifax for their final bunkering before their Atlantic crossing on 31st August 2011.
Good-bye to the Smallwoods,poor old Joe and Clara looks a bit bedraggled as she bunkers from Algoma Dartmouth in Dartmouth Cove on August 31st in preparation for her Atlantic crossing to Gibraltar. Name shortened to Smallwood and registered in St Kitts and Nevis. Sadly, she is probably destined for a breakers yard. She was followed later in the evening by Caribou ( Caribo) also in for a bunker stop. Not to be seen by us again,sadly. Two fine Canadian ships will be missed by many on the East Coast.

Atlantic Towing Ltd's supply/ROV control vessel ATLANTIC CONDOR in for a regular call at the Mobil dock,Woodside.
